. I give this Sabrent USB 3.0 Enclosure 5 stars with a few caveats. First off, the intended drive for this case is a 3TB Seagate Barracuda drive formatted on my PC with an AMD FX-8350 processor and a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard. After I removed the drive from the PC and placed it in the Sabrent USB 3.0 Enclosure, I plugged it into my PC's USB 3.0 port and although I heard beeps that the system recognized the USB connection, nothing showed up. A quick look into Disk Management showed the drive but no drive letter, and when right-clicking to change the drive letter all options except help were grayed out. Searching for help on the internet gave huge results with useless information about other situations and finally I searched for "GPT protective partition" because Disk Management said that about this drive. I used Diskpart to create a new partition and had to reformat my hard drive which means all the data (that I backed up to the NAS) was erased and after all that has been said and done my 3rd -TB Seagate hard drive finally something earned in Sabrent. USB 3.0 Enclosure. I'm not exactly sure why I had to go through all of this, but from my research there seemed to be some issues with the AMD CPU/motherboard and USB drive management. The good news is that I ran the CrystalDiskMark speed tests. on a Seagate drive both before (when plugged directly into my Sata controller on my Gigabyte motherboard) and after (when installed in a Sabrent USB 3.0 enclosure and plugged into a USB 3.0 port), and the results were not what I expected. While Sata II claims 6GB/s and USB 3.0 5GB/s, we've never seen such speeds in the real world, especially with spindle drives. I always thought that connecting directly to the sata cable from the motherboard would always give the fastest results, so I was curious how the same drive would work in a Sabrent USB 3.0, and what I found was a big surprise: the sequential one My motherboard speed was 142.0 MB/s read and 133.6 MB/s write. Connected to USB 3.0 in the Sabrent case, the serial speed was 160.4 MB/s read and 156.1 MB/s write! That's almost 13% faster reading and 17% faster writing. Time will tell how durable the enclosure is, but the fact that my drive runs faster with this Sabrent USB 3.0 enclosure makes it worth it. The case itself seems to be made of good plastic, you open the lid and the drive slides in and out without having to screw it in, as others have mentioned, this may not be the best option for long-term storage of a drive, but it is for ifs I'm sitting on my desk, this should work just fine.
