Doesn't work with drives larger than 3TB (even if advertised as such)

Even after I had to look for a driver update myself to get my 5TB hard drive recognized by this thing, the drive stalled kept coming back after a minute of inactivity and went into sleep mode. Essentially, when I tried to access something on the drive, it froze and I had to power cycle the case to reset the drive. I had to wait almost 2 minutes for the drive to be recognized again on my computer, but it stopped again after a minute after not being used. Low quality product. This may be due toโ€ฆ

Best Buy removed the hard drive and also gave it away.

Our home computer suddenly broke and I decided to just buy a new one. Best Buy removed the hard drive and gave it to me. I used to back up all my documents, photos and music, but my wife didn't. I decided to order this item hoping to get their documents and some of the programs I used which were not archived. I have very average computer skills. The hard drive is simply inserted into an external hard drive. You then simply use the USB connection, plug it into your new computer and turn on theโ€ฆ

I am a computer scientist in a small company. I have had this device since November 2017. I bought this product to back up my data and to help laptops migrate to SSD. The problem is that this only works for me about 1/3 of the time. I end up going back to my old hard drive case to get the job done. Sometimes the power light comes on (the drive is powered on) and sometimes it doesn't, but most of the time Windows 10 and 7 report an I/O error and don't recognize the device (so it recognizes theโ€ฆ

You need to update your drivers.

Finally I could use it. At first it didn't seem to work. I had to go to the Sabrent website and install the firmware so Windows could even see the drives I wanted to get data from. I had to do this on every computer I connected USB to. After that everything was pretty easy. I fully connected other USB IDEs or SATA and it works. I've considered using it as a media server hard drive enclosure as well with a USB port on a router or Xbox, but I think it probably won't be recognized on anything Iโ€ฆ

There are better options

I don't know what the problem with this device is. I bought it because I had several hard drives that I needed to erase before recycling. I connected the device, it installed without any problems and everything looked fine. Then I tried to install the Acronis software that I downloaded from Sabrent. He asked me for an activation serial number. After opening a support ticket and telling myself I didn't need a serial number, I took it upon myself to uninstall and reinstall Acronis. This seemed to

Very Bad Defect

Take that with a grain of salt - I could get a bad block. I bought it as an alternative to another case I have and specifically to support drives larger than 4TB. From the start the device reads and writes from drives as expected, but on two consecutive occasions I've cloned an existing healthy drive and the end result was listed as successful, but when the target drive was removed from the enclosure and permanently installed as a SATA drive inside Case computer, the target disk is visible toโ€ฆ

It works, but not without problems.

I liked the look of the case and how easy it was to install the hard drive thanks to the hinged door. Among other things, I think I should have read the reviews before buying. Here are the problems I had after installing a 4TB hard drive that was already plugged in and filled with data: 1. Shows up as an unknown device in Device Manager. I uninstalled it via Device Manager, unplugged it from the USB 3.0 port, waited a few minutes and plugged it back in. Now it shows up as "SABRENT" under "Disk"

  • Ease of use
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other models

. I give this Sabrent USB 3.0 Enclosure 5 stars with a few caveats. First off, the intended drive for this case is a 3TB Seagate Barracuda drive formatted on my PC with an AMD FX-8350 processor and a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard. After I removed the drive from the PC and placed it in the Sabrent USB 3.0 Enclosure, I plugged it into my PC's USB 3.0 port and although I heard beeps that the system recognized the USB connection, nothing showed up. A quick look into Disk Management showed theโ€ฆ
