Review on Sony TCM 400DV Pressman Standard Cassette by Jerry Delic

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Awesome little recorder

I bought several of these two years ago and my students use them all the time in class. And my journalism and English students use them to record interviews. While this is not an audiophile recording (there is some hum due to the built-in microphone), the quality is very good. As I write this review, I listen to the recording and hear every word of the interview clearly, both from the interviewer and the interviewee. So ultimately, this recorder does whatever I want it to do. In addition, there are several features worth mentioning: 1. There is a switch that allows you to record in both normal and double speed. (Double speed simply slows down the rate in inches per second to double the recording time on the tape.) 2. In playback mode, you can slow down or speed up the tape while listening. This comes in handy when you want to transcribe something word for word or speed up the passage of something you don't need to hear.3. The tape counter allows you to mark the precise spot on the tape during the interview that you want to return to when the interview is over. Overall, I was delighted with the performance of this product. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Pros
  • Advanced Voice Activated Recording (VOR) saves valuable recording time
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
