I finally have the setting I want. The connections come straight out of the adapter as there is no room at an angle. I also went for a remote mount with straight ports so the hoses go down and the filter mounts upside down. And no, the location of the filter has nothing to do with the return when the engine is off. If the filter has a valve, it will work in any position. I added a tee and Schrader valve on the intake side of the boom so I can drain the filter into the crankcase before removing it. Pure.
