Review on πŸ’Ώ Panasonic DIGA DMR-EH50 - DVD and HDD Recorder by Juan Simpson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

One of the best HDD DVDs from Panasonic

One of the best HDD DVDs from Panasonic, the best manufacturer of such devices, mainly because of the full resolution recording with up to 4 hours and overall excellent recording quality. . The downside to this model, as with all devices made at the time, is low quality capacitors, and it's also not clear what causes this, but some are starting to develop what I call "noisy" line inputs, the hash -Run lines through your records, basically rendering it useless. But if you don't have hash line problems and your caps seem to be holding, this is a great DVDR. The laser usually lasts a lifetime (never had this model, unlike say the EH-55 or EH-75v, which are newer, slightly better DVDRs but are prone to laser failure), which if you don't send it back for repairs ($ 250) basically brick it. Yes, you will need to dust the spindle regularly to keep the DVD from slipping while burning, which can cause burn errors, but doing so will result in more burns and this model will last a lot longer than newer ones. But note that personally I wouldn't pay much for it at this point, it's an 8+ year old device and probably not rated to last more than 3-5 years. You can buy it now and it may work for some In that case the capacitor may fail or you may get noise line input syndrome. If you bought it cheap enough and it works well after you bring it home then that's good for you, but as I've had my fair share of these and other Panasonics that have failed for one reason or another, lived all in debt. :)
