Good for beach use with narrow latch

This is a good padlock for use in humid, salty climates. The shaft is thinner than the main lock. My garden shed has a hole that most padlocks won't fit through for some stupid reason, so it's perfect. I would have preferred a pure stainless steel lock, but I couldn't find one with a bolt that was narrow enough. One thing I don't like, although this can be a plus if it reaches the end of its life and rusts, is that the latch doesn't pop out at all when unlocked, making it hard to tell when it's actually unlocked. We go to a barn on the shore every 18 months. When the lock is corroded and difficult to open due to salt, it is difficult to tell if the numbers are turning correctly, the numbers are not aligned, so the bolt may "jump" in the unlocked position as the bolt rusts is and won't pop out if it's too rusty to turn or what's the problem. We've learned the hard way that it's better to replace a lock before it reaches the end of its lifespan. It's better to throw away the lock at 3 months of life than to puzzle over whether it will actually open or not.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
