Review on MSD 8017 Vortech Cap Rotor by Michael Heidelberg

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best cap and rotor for this application

I have an MSD 5592 manifold that came with this cap and rotor. For some reason I keep burning through caps and rotors - the center button wears out. I had the bright idea that I would buy a "lifetime warranty" from my local parts store and then just replace it when the need arose. It went the full quarter mile before it issued an SES code and came back bad new in the box. So I ordered a replacement cap and rotor from MSD and they fixed the problem (at least until it wore out). The MSD cover has brass fittings instead of the aluminum fittings available from the parts store. A word of caution though. Although this part ships with the MSD 5592 manifold (cast aluminum), new bolts are included for the standard composite (plastic) manifold. Standard screws that screw into plastic have wood threads, while the correct screws for MSD 5592 have machined threads. So if you are replacing a cap on an MSD manifold you should reuse the screws and not try to use the supplied screws - they will clog the threads.

Pros
  • replacement parts
Cons
  • I won't say anything
