Review on Unlock Creativity and Problem-Solving with S T UGears Wooden Puzzle Models by Aaron Martin

Great way to see gears in action

We bought a Ugears tractor for my son's 8th birthday although we knew we would have to help him with this set. The parts are laser cut from the plywood leaving short sections uncut to keep the parts from falling out. These spots need to be cut with an Xacto razor/knife - my 10 year old daughter did this. If you don't cut them you risk splitting the wood. Waxing all axes of the toothpick is very important to facilitate insertion. We used a lot of toothpicks; You will probably want additional services. Also the measuring tool in the kit will help you a lot if you do it right. It's not difficult, but the instructions aren't very clear. Use the hole in the tool to push the toothpick through - the ends of toothpicks often need to stay sharp, so anything else should be avoided. My son was responsible for assembling the model. I needed help pushing the toothpick through and tying the rubber band, but he figured out the rest himself. The tractor does a good job, although the drive/park/sport shifts are quite sensitive.
