This only works with tap water. If you have reverse osmosis water or bottled reverse osmosis water, this will not work. This type of generator can be purchased here at Revain for $30. I'm not impressed and wouldn't have bought it had I known it requires unfiltered tap water. Since I already had it, I used my unfiltered tap water. Because of this, the water smells of ozone. You can leave the water on until the ozone dissipates, but the hydrogen will dissipate just as quickly. Happen. This isn't spe/pem and that plastic bottle should never cost that much. The only plus I can think of is that it comes with a micro USB cable and a USB block. The UPDATE from day 2 is that this device is COMPLETELY DEAD. It does not begin. TEAR. Sockets, cables and plugs changed. Dead.UPDATE: The seller sent me a new bottle to replace the dead one. The new bottle also seems to work well with unfiltered tap water. I don't mind drinking ozonated water, my only objection is that my water company fluoridates the water, so I have RO. If you filter your tap water through carbon filters, sediment filters, ultrafiltration (for bacteria), they all work with this H2 bottle. Reverse osmosis water alone will not work as it removes calcium and minerals. The difference with this particular bottle is that it is non-rechargeable and has no battery. It uses power from the USB port. This is the ONLY H2 cylinder that works this way. So it is good for home use or work. Just don't leave until you get to your destination. In fact, I prefer that it doesn't need to be "charged" every day. Price. But it's still there.
