Review on 🦍 Gorilla Automotive TW605 Torque Wrench: Optimize Precision and Performance with this Powerful Tool by Jake Powell

Very good wrench at a very good price

I am not an experienced mechanic but I do about 95% of repairs myself and have worked with cars for a long time. For a home garage, quality and price are unbeatable. My only (very minor) gripe with this instrument is that the dial doesn't perfectly match the graduations on the handle. But that's not a big deal, because the desired torque value can still be easily set. I bought this wrench to install new input/output nuts on my car's transmission (111 ft/lbs) and it worked great. I also used it to tighten a few bolts, which only took 20 ft/lbs. I have to say it's a great key for the money. It comes in a nice plastic case and includes an extension and an adapter for smaller heads. I disagree with a reviewer who claims "the head of the ratchet is encased in some kind of cheap tin case". I'm not sure what he's looking at, but it's no different than any other big ratchet I've seen. In fact I would say the body quality is as good as the Craftsman ratchets. The tool itself has pleasant tactile feedback and an audible click to indicate you've reached the correct torque setting. I played around with this to see how reproducible the click was at the given settings and every time it was dead. You can even see the difference by lifting just a foot/pound on the same screw you already tightened to have. Pretty impressive! What makes me feel better about buying a "one off" tool is that actually a torque wrench can be used in many cases (just read the chapter summary in any auto repair manual and you'll see all the possible factory torque specs). In fact, you *should* apply the correct torque even to the nuts on the tires. Rather than just guessing with an impact wrench or worse bolts (which I've done before), I can tighten them to spec and sleep a little better at night :) So while I bought it for a specific job that required precision tightening, I did would definitely get my money's worth with this tool, even for simple brake work or spinning tires. No more guesswork!
