Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Single Speed Conversion Kit by Origin8 by Quinton Dawon

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works great after some modifications.

The best thing about this kit are the spacers. The gears are decent. My biggest problem was with the tensioner. When I first installed the tensioner and shortened the chain as much as possible, I noticed that it was too tight. I couldn't pedal backwards without a lot of effort, and normal pedaling was loud and felt like stepping through mud. This could probably be solved by adding a few links to the chain to hold the spring in a weaker position, but this seemed counterintuitive compared to the beauty and simplicity of singlespeed. To solve these problems I decided to make the chain more static. Push-up clamps using the parts I had on hand. So I removed the spring and reinstalled the tensioner after reversing the bolt. This brought the tensioner itself closer to the frame. In order to use the included pin plate to mount the tensioner where I wanted, I had to machine a smaller pin to fit flush with the derailleur hanger. Check out the pictures I've added to get a clearer idea of what was done. After that everything went great! You can apply the same type of mods I did and just push down if you want to keep using this tensioner in push-down mode. Next time I'll probably skip the kit and just buy the gear, spacers and tensioner separately. For the time and money I spent I was able to get a DMR STS tensioner that was designed to work the way I modified this one.
