No dimming problem
The problem with this product is simply that as it is designed for the TV area (recommended mounting on the back of a flat screen TV) it really needs a dimming function in my opinion. It is too bright in its configuration for some rooms, and even more so for a semi-dark room. As this is an LED strip it would be best to just buy a short LED strip with a 12V power supply and 12V dimmer which are relatively cheap and plug into each other (usually 5- mm connector) to avoid soldering.
