After getting really fed up with the plastic sponges that accumulate residue over time no matter what I do to clean them, I decided to go with a non-porous material. The options are mostly glass or stainless steel. The glass didn't help because I don't want to handle my kitchen appliances with kid gloves lest I break them. This Buster was outstanding. I rinse it out with hot soapy water right after use (just soak up the soapy water and pour it back into the container a few times) and then run it in the dishwasher. After some use I'll also put it in a small ultrasonic bath with the pear, but that's not really necessary. The steel roasting tube is well made and will last a lifetime in the kitchen. The hypodermic needle is good and will work fine as long as you don't lose it. The lamp is made from heavy silicone rubber and should last for years. All in all I am very satisfied with this purchase.
