I don't know why people are giving such bad reviews about this product. I ordered this device to avoid spending $10 a month on rent. After plugging in the cable and connecting to the computer, I entered the Xfinity portal and activated it. The device restarted several times, after which I was ready to start. I have my own firewall and wireless network at home, so I just called Comcast tech support and asked them to put the device into bridge mode. The whole thing lasted eight minutes. This had the side effect of disabling xfinity-wifi, which people are complaining about. No need to build a Faraday cage as others have mentioned. Even if you don't want your device to be in bridge mode, you can still get rid of the free Wi-Fi by calling Comcast. Please note that this device does not come with a backup battery. I read that before buying. You can buy it here: Arris ARCT00830 10/12 Hour Battery Pack for ARRIS Touchstone TG8/TM5/TM6/TM7/TM8 Modems While I want to be in full control and not call Comcast for everything, that's not the fault of the product I am bought. This is the service I subscribed to.
