Review on CanaKit Raspberry Pi 3 B+ Ultimate Starter Kit (32 GB Edition) with Clear Case: Everything You Need to Get Started by Larry Willis

Pi is great; but CanaKit branded items quickly failed

The Raspberry Pi itself (I assume Canakit isn't made but by an authorized manufacturer) still works great. But the item bundled with the CanaKit brand really sucks: the power adapter. When stress testing the Pi (no overclocking; fully within the operating limits of the RPi), the Pi claims "under voltage" when running at 100% CPU. Note that this is not a Pi bug. When I use the official Raspberry Pi Foundation 5V 2.5A WHITE power supply instead, it works GREAT and does intensive calculations for long periods of time. The Canakit power supply caused an undervoltage in just 10 minutes of intensive calculation time. USB reader for microSD memory cards. I used it a total of 3 times before it failed. When I tried to use it on the Pi to try to clone my drive, the reader failed. 2 different SD cards on 2 different computers can no longer be read by this microSD card reader. And these cards and computers work great with other readers. Please note that the SD card itself (Samsung) works fine. Only branded goods from CanaKit did not fit. This is already my second order. The first had to be returned and money back due to liquid stains on the plastic case (supposedly new!) I'm not returning this one (yet), even with poor quality items, because I don't want to waste time setting up another Pi . Sigh. On my second Pi, I purchased items separately, with no kit. If you're paying for high-quality one-offs, it works a lot better than this "kit".

Pros
  • 32GB Micro SD Card (Class 10) with NOOBS preinstalled, CanaKit 2.5A Power Adapter with 1.5m Micro USB Cable and Noise Filter (UL certified )
Cons
  • Slightly crumpled
