I ended up using it to replace a car's rear license plate bracket that was rusted and chipped off. I understand it's meant for the front, but I've found turning it upside down, open side down, works for me. Holes in the back panel provided many mounting options as the car's original mounting holes were unusable. When used from the rear with the bracket inverted, the license plate is not inserted from above, which would not be possible without removing the entire bracket, but from below. Now the mount and license plate are secure so I don't have to worry about them falling off. With the old mount, the back plate would bend or break in almost any car wash. Now that the plate is protected on the sides and secured with four screws, this problem is gone.
