I was only able to use the meter for a short time but during that time I used it for about 5 days to measure pH of my Well water that has been treated with a water neutralizer. I would say it's almost impossible to use the meter with any kind of reliability without buying a buffer solution. I say this because although the manufacturer says the electrode is factory calibrated, it has been impossible to get accurate readings without recalibrating the unit upon arrival. After calibration, you can get good readings with any test solution. with a very wicket that allows you to make 100ml, which is enough to calibrate the meter to pH 7.0. Eventually you will need to buy more pH buffers, and if you are testing an acidic or alkaline solution, you need to buy the correct buffer solution from the start. You will also need distilled water to rinse the electrodes after using the buffer solution and before storage. I've also read that electrodes should be stored with a 3M LLC solution. I believe you can substitute buffer solution 7.0 but there is no certainty on the matter. The fact is that you have to take care of the cleaning, storage and calibration of every pH meter.
