Seems to be pretty good for my slightly non-standard use case. I installed it on a cart with a reel on my dog's long cord. Thus, the cable does not always drag along the floor when running up and down the rail. The recoil spring is a bit weaker and barely able to lift the cable and lightweight 8ft extension. I can understand why people have complained about the mount - if this thing is firmly attached then when the dog reaches the end of the cord it will give a sharp tug. This is not a problem when routing the cable as the cable swings sideways and cushions the impact. UPDATE: After 2 months his withdrawal has eased to the point where he can no longer pull than his own cable. It's just that the extension cord adapter I'm using is too heavy for it. The recoil spring seems to be weakening quickly. Addendum: broken after 8 months. Won't retract and all the vinyl on the cable has worn away.
