Can be freely attached to the bike. Jumping and swinging doesn't hurt. I do not understand. I don't like the attachment points on the Yakima Ridgeback series hitches. They are very strict and only fit men's hardtails/road bikes (horizontal top tube). Every other bike really needs one of these to set it up for its intended purpose. Of the five bikes I have, only two fit well. The other three should probably have one of those bars. This significantly increases the cost of the trunk, increases installation time, and requires additional storage space for tube adapters. My Thule 4 bike carrier fits all types of bikes. I wish I could get this rack in a 5 bike model. I was going to sell my Thule trunk but I think I'll keep it to myself and use it as much as possible.
