As mentioned in other comments and questions I was able to adapt the master cylinder to my 83. Please note that it's not just about drilling larger holes, you need to cut through them to get the right angle. But don't worry, it's soft metal and easy to drill! I had to remove the clip from the brake line to get enough play as the banjo is on top and not on the side. The tank is also well bolted. In terms of functionality it works great, my rear brake lever is nice and stiff. This pressure is more than enough to compress the brake disc.
