Review on πŸ’¨ Tenma 21-8240 Vacuum Desoldering Iron: Powerful and Efficient Solder Removal Tool by Doug Hinrichsen

Revainrating 1 out of 5

No advantages over a soldering iron and separate pump, actually worse.

I got the 30w version first so maybe the 40w version is better. 30W takes a long time to heat up and was mediocre at best in the DIP package I was trying to solder. The trigger of the pump is so far from the tip that you either have to adopt an awkward hand position to use it or go back to two hands as if using a soldering iron and hand pump combo. The tip wraps around the pin being desoldered just like professional tools, except with professional tools you can be sure the solder joint will melt. It's different with this one, so you have to trust that the sucking is okay, but it rarely happens. This means doing each joint many times. The suction seems adequate, albeit uncomfortable, but the heating element leaves a lot to be desired. will i use it nope Back to the old method until I can buy a case for a professional device. And for the record, I've been soldering and soldering since I was 16, and that was in the last century.

Pros
  • Demolition pumps
Cons
  • Some little things
