That is amazing. I bought it with clear doubts.

This thing is amazing. I bought it with clear doubts, then "okay," then my first use on a capacitor, followed by "damn! FREE CONDENSER WITHOUT EXTRA EFFORT! Then I replaced fifty capacitors in a Bose Wave radio with the same results , noting for any performance hits (none) stemming from it not being fully cleaned Buy this I'm free from desoldering anxiety, thank goodness I'm finally free!

Vacuum desoldering iron

answers to your questions. Yes it works. Yes For a one-time job worth buying. Yes, you can get replacement tips for it, tips (DESOL3 replacement tip). Simply unscrew the tip and screw in a new one (DO NOT remove the screws on the side!). You can clean it, yes, by pushing the charge/thumb button forward to the locked position, gently pressing and lifting at the same time, and it comes apart for cleaning. ATTENTION ! IT WILL BE SPREAD, so be careful. Now, like all old-school soldering irons, itโ€ฆ

but it is MUCH better than the normal solder cup

Not a stroke of luck as many people think, but it is MUCH better than the normal solder cup. It managed one half on the infinite Ergodox, which required removing switches, but struggled on the other half, which I used lots of solder on. Faster to use than separate tools - mount suction cup, place on joint, heat up, press button, repeat. Much quicker than using two tools and one hand and then putting down the iron to reset the suction cup. You have to remove many components that are worthโ€ฆ

HOW TO CLEAN. For the price you can't beat it.

It's only 30W and it takes time to warm up. It seems, although I haven't tested it, that there is a temperature cutoff because suddenly it takes longer to melt the solder and after a minute the solder starts to melt again. A higher switch-off temperature is required. IMO.CLEANING: Disassembly is very easy. Grab your thumb, cock the plunger and keep pushing until you move the yellow tube 1/16 inch towards the heater tip and push it up. The knob assembly has two notches that mate with two tabs on

great idea, doesn't really work

I really wish it was a good idea. Unfortunately, it's difficult to make a piston removal tool that works at this price point. For thirteen dollars, probably impossible. If you're using a piston desoldering tool *and* a soldering iron, the distance between the piston and the tip is very short, so the vacuum is sharp and quite strong. Add about three inches (the distance from the heated tip to the bottom of the desoldering iron, and the vacuum loses power. Lots of power. What takes one shot withโ€ฆ

Great Tool: Welding and Soldering

I work on and collect old radios; This disassembly tool is ideal for removing components from circuit boards. Before I bought this I used a regular soldering iron and a separate desoldering tool with a spring loaded piston (similar to the one that comes with Tenma). Not only did this method require two hands, it also meant moving the iron away from the joint and the desoldering tool quickly enough to prevent the solder from curing. The Tenma tool does both. Disassembly for cleaning is notโ€ฆ

Hello desoldering friends! The TENMA AMAZON removal tip is TENMA 21-8241, 2" (5 PCS). $4.97 + 4.09 shipping. Copy and paste! And yes! The tips on your TENMA 21-8240 are the same as the VELLEMEN VTDESOL3U1 Desoldering Pump Part #/Location on AMAZON: Exactly the same part as your Tenma 21-8240 Best so far!As of this post on Feb 17, 2021 Get 2 Tips for $5.90 In any case if you don't have a TENMA -can find a replacement part, the VELLEMAN tips will get the job done. Cons
  • boring packaging

I got the 30w version first so maybe the 40w version is better. 30W takes a long time to heat up and was mediocre at best in the DIP package I was trying to solder. The trigger of the pump is so far from the tip that you either have to adopt an awkward hand position to use it or go back to two hands as if using a soldering iron and hand pump combo. The tip wraps around the pin being desoldered just like professional tools, except with professional tools you can be sure the solder joint willโ€ฆ

Works, but cleaning sucks!

I verified this by cutting two unnecessary PCB's with different pass capacitors, MOSFETs, resistors, transformers etc. It works quite well for a while until cleaning is needed. The solder buildup inside the piston eventually prevents suction until the tool becomes less and less efficient. That's to be expected, of course, but how the hell are you going to clean this thing? Is it for single use? Of course, there is no "release button" to separate the piston from the barrel to remove solderโ€ฆ

Not bad. for money.

Just got it and had to test it right away. Coming from a long history of electronics, soldering and desoldering, this is not a new experience for me. However, I've never had time to get myself any advanced tools other than the standard suction pump. The only advanced soldering tool I've invested in is my adjustable soldering station. Now I have a heated desoldering pump. My first impression. it sucks. and not a good view. Well, sometimes not. It's only 30W so honestly don't expect too much. Ifโ€ฆ
