My first set of cleats were standard Crank Brothers cleats which have a much larger escapement. It was probably good for me when I started with boots. These new zero float boots are a great upgrade for me. They snap in and out a lot easier than the floating Crank Brothers I replaced. Disclaimer: The ones I replaced had some wear but not bad wear. I use Sidi Mountain Shoes and Crank Brothers Mountain Pedals on my road bike so there has always been some form of shoe sole protection for the Crank Brothers brass spikes. Even though there was some wear on the cleats I replaced, I don't think just putting on and taking off the new cleats makes getting in and out, standing up while climbing and riding hard on the flat all that easy made: It's no lift and no decoupling. angles on these spikes. Note to new pimple users: I've enjoyed the added buoyancy of the standard pimples while getting used to them and tweaking pimple placement etc to optimize my spin. Now that I've used cleats for a long time with shoes, pedals, etc. that are custom made for me and my bike, I appreciate the zero slippage and low release angle that these cleats offer.
