Installed myself and I liked it. I was wondering if it's worth it as I might just need on screen navigation that I can already stream via bluetooth and use a phone mount. But now I am convinced that I made the right decision. No more unsightly mounts on my car, plus great other features. to use OEM iDrive and steering natively - MP3 streaming sounds much better (not just in my opinion) - Clear and safer position for maps when navigating and no need to mess around with your phone. Complaints: I can't get the wireless Android Auto to work, as mentioned in another (Android Auto Wireless was never listed, I know). Maybe my block doesn't really support it. (Works after changing Wi-Fi frequency on MMI) Android Auto establishes stable connection on second try. After connecting it runs very stable. (Actually automatic connection after turning on the wireless projection on the phone) I have to turn on the car after putting it in reverse so that it switches back to MMI. on the phone. F30 Installation Tips and Observation: Be patient and prepare to watch several related MMI videos. (The installation is definitely doable from the point of view of a person who has very little experience in car installation). Have your Torx T15 and finishing tools. ). I have a larger head unit and didn't have to remove the glove box for my F30. I had to leave the AC bezel plugged in as it wouldn't come loose even with the cutting tool and I didn't want to risk breaking it (a bit chipped in fact). First disconnect the screen cable from the head unit, then remove the screen completely and remove the very stubborn cable in a convenient place. Place the MMI unit to the rear of the driver, away from the head unit, which should reach all the way back. Lay most of the cable as far back as possible on the other side. The head unit can now be used with little effort. Check before assembling the dashboard. Check again after the main unit (radio) is attached. Here I had problems and had to move the antenna. I placed the antenna in a clean area under the vent. Remember to select aux in the iDrive menu before and not after, otherwise the sound from the MMI may not work. cut to the knee. Then a 6ft USB flat cable to the armrest. The bottom of the armrest drawer can be easily lifted to accommodate the USB cable. I still get a good GPS signal with my phone in the armrest drawer and the cord is long enough to take out when needed. Hide the cable under the padding as it leads to the armrest box. Please Note: Screen Mirroring works for Android but requires installing the Autolink app from the Play Store. I found a screen mirror useful when I want to use options other than Google Maps. I had to enable the steering wheel controls in the MMI settings for it to work. Great convenience and experience so far!
