Review on Krinner Genie Christmas Stand Green by Brandon Mcvey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Overall excellent. Beware of the float and blocking system!

Read other reviews for key details. This easily holds my 10 foot tall, 125 pound Home Depot tree where previous stands wouldn't even come close to holding (for example this one is terrible after 5 foot trees: St Nicks Choice Pivot Point Tree Stand). Two criticisms that I don't clearly see elsewhere are the main reason for this review: 1) Bring your own latch or locking knob. As mentioned, there is a small plastic slider on the handle (which also doubles as a strain relief) that allows you to "lock" the system so you don't accidentally let go of your tree. The slider does not stay in place and is untrustworthy. It's clearly designed so you can put a bolt or shaft through a hole to secure it. I used a 1/4-20 x 2" bolt with a washer on each side and a nut. No tools required (just finger tighten). See my picture for details. 2) Don't trust the liquid gauge float Unfortunately, the design is very sensitive to torque jams (meaning it "flexes and sticks, indicating too much water.") I found that literally *every* time I manually checked the system , the float got stuck at the high tide mark and the evaporation rate dropped significantly In related news: Tapping the float with your finger is a simple and clean way to 'feel' the water level I still find this little device useful, just... not in the way it was originally intended.
