Perfect fit for Toyota Prius 2008 + cleaning tips!

This Toyota tailgate switch cover is an ideal replacement. I'm very glad I found this and I highly recommend it if the tailgate switch cover has melted or is starting to melt. Every time you flip the switch to open your Toyota's rear trunk, you'll receive a gift of sticky black fingers. I wish I had thought about looking for a replacement a few years ago when this started and before it completely melted away. The following details do not relate to the OEM rubber cover itself, but to how to get rid of that sticky black goo that was once the original liftgate/trunk switch rubber cover on your Toyota vehicle. You should be prepared for this BEFORE installing the new rubber cover. This sticky stuff is probably the worst I've ever encountered in any DIY auto repair job I've done over the years. But still ready in about 30-45 minutes. I used a household cleaner called "Goo Gone". Goo Gone cuts through rubber degraded by grease, oil, label glue, etc., which in this case is the target substance. Apply "Goo Gone" to the entire melted rubber area of your car's tailgate switch. Wet the affected area of Goo Gone completely. This will mess up your car if it runs down the back of your car, but will clean it up later. The goal is to remove the melted rubber. Leave Goo Gone on the affected area for a few minutes (maybe 3-5 minutes). You will then need plenty of paper towels to wipe most of the melted gum away. Some gum residue that cannot be wiped off with paper towels. I used a rag and more Goo Gone spray to wipe off the remaining melted rubber. it removes the grease and oil that is the basis of Goo Gone) and more paper towels. I wasn't able to completely clean the sunroof switch area, but it was clean enough to fit a new rubber cover. The rubber cover has an inner "edge". " on the back which is designed to hug the area of the switch cover. However, to get an exact fit you may need to remove the switch from the sunroof cover. I decided against it and just screwed on the rubber plug without the small lip to wrap around the switch area at the back. I think that's what most people do. I noticed a comment from someone who said this product doesn't quite fit. In my opinion, that reviewer may not have noticed that it was an accurate fit to obtain most people have to remove the switch.if you're patient you can slide it around the edges with a small screwdriver to press the rubber against the switch area. From what I've learned from other reviews I'll go Other people just install screws this way and skip the extra step of getting the rubber lip on the Wrap backing around edge of switch area.
