Review on Improved Zama Carburetor C1U-K54A - Ideal for Mantis Tiller & Other Versatile Uses by Dean Pinheiro

Revainrating 5 out of 5

(almost) no experience required

First of all I hate mechanical work. But my current economic situation (retired) set the tone for this renovation. After literally weeks of tinkering with set screws on my old Mantis tiller, I was almost ready to take it to the dealer. It starts but won't run, or runs without power, or stops when I release the trigger. I was confused. Before I downloaded this thing I went to Revane to see what I could see. Other reviews showed that I wasn't alone with my problem and this little carb looked like the solution! Only $30 plus shipping, why not? While doing this I also ordered a new set of gas lines and bushings. I wasn't sure if I needed them, but since I'd be "there" I figured I might as well replace them. The lines arrived a day before the carburetor. Both are in good condition and within 3-4 days although I chose regular shipping. I started by emptying the gas tank first. In fact, only two screws hold the choke and carburetor together. Once removed, all that remains is to remove the lines. I pushed the grommet into the gas tank and pulled the hoses out through the filler hole. Keep the carburetor gasket, a new one with replacement will not be sent. Note which line goes where, both through the bushing and into the carburetor. I'm not sure if the bushing makes a big difference, but I wanted to replace them since they came from the factory. BimBamBoom, the work was completed within half an hour and the "moment of truth" had arrived. Now many say the new carburetor comes "pre-installed" and after filling the tank my tiller started working like new. After warming up, it performed like a top both under load and while idling. Wow! I took it out into the garden to break up a few clumps, which I turned over by hand and the mantis did the trick, non-stop and at full power. Since my device has been running without problems for 12 years, I consider myself lucky. EVERY WINTER DRAIN THE GAS AND RUN IT DRY.
