Before purchasing these tensioners I saw a review that said the rubber had deteriorated. But if you know anything about these types of spanners, you know you MUST have a silicone spray bottle. This not only protects and conserves the rubber, but also makes assembly much easier. You want the rubber to slide easily through the clamps and the silicone helps a lot. And at the end of the season, apply a thick layer of silicone before removing the stretchers. I spray the tensioners for my car the same way, but I also spray the cables. This will lubricate the areas that can rotate around the cables. I recommend these stretchers, a can of silicone, and a good pair of gloves.
