I swapped contacts in my distributor and couldn't get the car up to speed. Eventually, I traced the problem back to the lag, which decreased as the RPM increased. The likely cause of this symptom is that the contacts are not closing fast enough at higher RPMs due to insufficient spring pressure or some other problem. The delay angle is large when the points are too far apart and smaller when they are too close together. However, this shouldn't change with RPM. To be honest I've read good reviews about this brand and it's possible that there is another problem under the distributor cap that I can't find. I installed the electronic ignition and have had no problems since.
