I was very happy to receive this food dehydrator but the longer it sat unused on the kitchen counter the less thrilled I was. I planned on dehydrating a variety of foods (e.g. peas, carrots, celery, blueberries, cranberries) and semi-liquid foods (e.g. applesauce, spaghetti sauce). But this unity is not suitable for one or the other. I was more than willing to buy extra trays etc but that proved almost impossible. We paid extra to get the unit with stainless steel shelves, but that too was a disappointment. 1) Design flaws: While stainless steel shelves allow large items to be dried without direct contact with plastic (good!), the square of opening in stainless steel trays is quite large and smaller items can fall through due to shrinkage during the drying process (bad!). Of course, you can use plastic racks for small items, but that defeats the purpose of choosing a dehydrator with stainless steel shelves. Why don't they make the stainless steel mesh small enough to dehydrate solid foods? 2) Design flaw: stainless steel shelves do not have enough edges to prevent round objects (like peas, cranberries, grapes) from rolling down. in stock. This is especially true if you are using a plastic trellis over a stainless steel shelf. I was willing to purchase and use additional fruit rolling bowls, but that proved almost impossible. 3) Poor Customer Service: It is extremely difficult to contact the seller and/or manufacturer to purchase additional trays (e.g. net sheets and/or fruit trays). I've made several attempts via email and phone but have been unable to reach a live person. Every time I dialed "sell" today, their phone system would hang on me. If there was a non-working period in their time zone, they could at least offer an announcement or let me leave a message. Seriously, if something is that hard to buy, how much harder does it get when it needs to be fixed? As much as I wish I loved this dehydrator, I will be returning it. What is the use of stainless steel shelves if the holes are too big and plastic foils/trays are required? What's the point of buying additional trays if you can't get the seller and/or manufacturer to sell them? If you only want to dry strips of meat or large pieces of food, this can be a good food dehydrator. To you. However, if you were expecting to be able to use stainless steel shelves for small items (or round items), then this food dehydrator probably isn't for you. And good luck trying to purchase additional trays or contacting the seller/manufacturer.
