Review on 🎨 Winsor & Newton 30ml Gold Drawing Ink Bottle: Shimmering Elegance for Artistic Excellence by Gelin Battle

Troublesome but beautiful

I love this ink. It's incredibly metallic, with a distinct reflective sheen that outperforms all other gold inks I've tried - Spectralite, Finetec, Lumiere, Dr. Martin's Iridescent - and it really does look gilded. The ink is bronze particles in solution, so it's actually the metal that gives it a golden look that other inks just can't produce. However, this creates some problems. Bronze is much heavier than liquid, so it separates much faster than most metallics or iridescent colors - almost immediately the bronze begins to sink and the concentration degrades rapidly. In fact, I would recommend using this on a magnetic stirrer so the bronze is evenly distributed. Otherwise, you'll need to shake or stir them about every two minutes. Bronze also introduces some adhesion and visual quality issues. ; I would suggest buffing the ink after it dries, as it dries to a shiny, rough, speckled quality rather than a smooth sheet of metal. But be careful when polishing - too much pressure can cause the ink to come off. All in all I would recommend this if you want a truly metallic ink that actually looks gold plated but will have some handling issues.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • High price
