We used it on the bed of a pickup truck and it was the perfect width. We put a small strap over it and it didn't move - not even sure if it's really needed as we had it just behind the cab at the back of the truck. Rain and snow fell and everything stayed dry inside. The material was also manageable in cold weather, albeit stiffer than in warm weather. We had three medium suitcases on the sides and a fourth, but we didn't have a fourth - we had a small fridge and all sorts of little things that helped minimize cab clutter for rear passengers (a big dog and her person is my wife ) We were very happy that we made this purchase at the end of the trip.
