I have a nephew who is very active and loves everything his father does. His dad is a big BBQ fan, and by the way, my nephew even got a BBQ playset recently. I thought these knives would make an interesting little gift for him. Maybe he could help in the kitchen by chopping fruits and vegetables without hurting himself. He's still very young, so you certainly wouldn't want him using anything spicy. With them I'm not concerned at all about them cutting and they are actually quite effective at slicing tougher veggies and fruit. I mean, they can undoubtedly cut berries too, but they're perfect for things like apples, potatoes, and carrots. His parents love it too because instead of constantly running around and acting like an idiot, they can make him work and teach him some life skills. This is an impressive little starter set and I think it's a great idea. It's never too early to learn some kitchen skills and with this set of knives you don't have to worry about accidents. I recommend them.
