Very accurate, but be careful!

I compared the Etekcity Lasergrip 800 to a calibrated thermometer before use. I was VERY impressed with the accuracy of 0.1-0.2 degrees Fahrenheit at room temperature. I bought a device to document poorly insulated areas in a new build. All of my temperature readings were between 64 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (18-21 C). OBSERVATIONS also required the building's outside temperature, which I knew to be about 26.5 degrees Fahrenheit (-3 C), BUT TAKEN ON THE EXTERIOR WALL OF THE BUILDING, THE LASERGRIP 800 SHOWED 4 DEG F (-15.5 C) . WHAT'S WRONG? Taking the instrument to a cold outdoor environment caused an ERROR. So I left it outside for 15 minutes to align and measure again. Now the accuracy is back to normal. So watch out for mistakes when moving the instrument from a hot to a cold environment! In the opposite direction, from a cold to a hot environment, this is not good for ANY device as condensation and damage can occur when you turn it on. So let it warm up a bit to room temperature before turning it on. This also applies to portable computers. The error problem is not mentioned in the user manual, but now you know.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
