It has been a long time since I bought one of these cables and when I bought this one I was pleasantly surprised. This is a high quality product and here's why. Material: stainless steel, will not rust. The strands at the cut end were welded together. I was able to run the entire length of the cable from derailleur to derailleur without worrying about end wear. This made installation simpler, easier and faster. After installing it and connecting it to the switch, I used wire cutters to cut about an extra foot of wire and attached the aluminum end cap that came with it. The end protector has a raised collar on the open end that you simply pinch with pliers to crimp tightly. The protector pressed right the first time, unlike the old ones that often slipped off.
