Review on Baratza Encore Conical Coffee Grinder by Eric Ross

Revainrating 5 out of 5

At the risk of snobbery.

I already knew what I was getting from this device, so its features are a plus for me. I don't grind espresso, and there are undoubtedly other (more expensive) grinders that are better suited to the task. I am a fan of hand brewing and this grinder is perfect for fine, medium and medium grinds. Easy to use, relatively easy to clean (check out Seattle Coffee Gear's cleaning video). I didn't have to recalibrate the height of the ridges from the factory settings. Compared to the Hario Skerton manual coffee grinder, it is light years ahead in terms of convenience. It has already paid off by saving time and effort when turning the portions. I agree with other authors on the statics; I gently tap the sides of the grinder before removing the hopper to avoid rain after the coffee shells are ground. Constipation is not a problem unless you grind cheap Walmart/Costco oil-soaked beans. your good gear. You wouldn't put AARCO gas in a luxury car, so don't put cheap beans through the $100 grinder. In addition, the precise grinding of cheap coffee offers almost no taste advantage. You can't make a silk purse out of pig's ears, and you can't make good coffee out of stale beans that sit on the shelf for months. If you can't feel the difference, don't waste your money on the best brewing equipment. There is NO substitute for high quality, freshly roasted coffee beans and these tools simply add the ease and consistency of home coffee making that matches or exceeds the coffee from your local coffee shops. Edit: Two years later no problems with the coffee grinder. probably more than 50 pounds/year after heavy use. Just like the day I bought it. I regularly remove coarse and fine particles that have settled in the funnel holder and in the paddle area. What else do you need from a meat grinder?
