Review on πŸƒ Ultimate Performance Upgrade: Garmin Forerunner 935 - Tri Bundle by Dangelo Toliver

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Poor build quality suggests it would be a great watch

As someone who has had multiple Garmin watches and fitness products, I was blown away by the 935 when it came out in 2017 last year. I got this watch as an upgrade for my 920 as it had new performance specs with the wrist heart rate sensor which I was interested in. I swim, bike and run so it's gotten pretty good use in the year since I bought it. What would have been a 5 star rating became a 1 star due to some egregious issues with a $500 watch (back then). My stroke accuracy was in the 60-75% range. I have never been able to make die sets with multiple types with 100% accuracy. This week I did 3 sets of 200 IM during practice and only once did it recognize my butterfly and only 1 pool length, not even on a return (the watch said it was freestyle). If I had done the strokes one at a time the system would have recognized them better, but I still had trouble not counting laps (he didn't like my breaststroke or didn't have enough time to flip a backflip). The next problem was this. rear plastic cover over the heart rate sensors. Judging by the photo, he began to peel off. Unacceptable for a $500 watch and a full year of use. I can't trust my heart rate readings, so I can't trust the power numbers I was interested in to be accurate. The last problem is that the temperature sensor and the barometer sensor can no longer calibrate properly. I took issue with the watch as I use it regularly by the pool, but then again a $500 watch shouldn't have this problem after a year. To make matters worse, I have 4 months beyond my 1 year warranty period. Garmin is installed, so I can't solve these problems. You can search the web for these problems and it's easy to find other buyers who have had these problems, so I'm not the only one. Following the DC Rainmaker gives this watch a really good review, but these issues are a stumbling block for me, particularly the poor build quality of the $500 watch. Without these problems it would have easily got 5 stars. There are so many metrics to track and Garmin has put a lot of effort into the app so you can use that data. Until these issues are resolved I cannot ignore and recommend this.

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • so far so good
