Review on πŸ’» D-Link 802.11g Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter with 54Mbps Speed by Jason Khadka

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works with Unbuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) Ready to use

This is the second D-Link WUA-1340g USB dongle I've bought. I was looking for a cheap USB network adapter to use with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and 8.10 and for use with my Windows XP/Ubuntu dual boot desktops. I am using WEP with my Qwest DSL 2-wire (2700-HG-D) gateway/router/wireless access point. The only thing easier than installing Windows was installing Unbuntu. It worked out of the box, with no special setup. I'm not sure if this USB network card uses different chipsets depending on the model number and revision, but both of my devices work without problems. So far, the range seems good to excellent, and I haven't experienced any wireless dropouts while running multiple large downloads simultaneously (uTorrent, KTorrent, and other regular downloads). The extension cord definitely increases the reception range and the bracket that the network card plugs into feels very solid. Like many network cards, it heats up to the touch and is therefore ventilated. I use it with my Dell, an Optixplex GX280 and two Ubuntu shared media servers that I built from scratch using Intel P4 motherboards. I hope this helps readers, especially those looking for Linux compatible USB network cards.
