Bought these chains for a trip to Mammoth and knew thunderstorms were coming. We climbed the mountain quite well, but of course we woke up the next morning to over a foot of fresh snow and it snowed non-stop all day. Made it to elevators without chains but definitely needed them to get down. Installed according to the instructions (I did a test run in the garage before the trip so I'm OK with the process) and installed them with ease. and started rolling out "SNAP". I looked down and one of the cross cables just broke off at the inner junction! Damn. I had to tie the cable to chains so it wouldn't wreck my car (thought I'd cut it once I got down the hill to the hardware store) and drove off again. 1/2 tire turn and "SNAP". Now I'm annoyed - another cable broke in the same place and now it's hanging on the tire. Now I'm trying to find wire cutters or bolt cutters as this is a serious problem and I'm not sure the car will run at the moment. 1 hour trying out different tools - bolt cutters, wire cutters etc. from all over the ski area, I stumble across a hacksaw at the ski rental shop. They were kind enough to let me use it and I cut 2 broken wires. After that, the chains started to work, but I was afraid that at any moment they could break and damage my car. Doesn't inspire confidence if you bought them for confidence in the snow. I hope they see this review and offer me a replacement chain as I am assuming it is just a defective item. Just take a look.
