This spring compressor is very easy to use. The fork simply slides between the coils and the bearing seat that holds the center of the spring. Located on a threaded shaft, the bearing greatly reduces the friction and torque required to compress the springs. One caveat: Make sure the surface of the coil is free of coolant and oil, including penetrating liquids. I discovered this when the coil of the spring slipped about 4 inches, resulting in a rapid release of energy. I cleaned the penetrating oil and rubbed the dirt onto the surface of the nib and wiped clean. After that no problem. Keep the bearing lubricated as a sudden jerk can also cause the fork to rotate. Use gentle, even strokes. I don't recommend using a decompression gun and I don't think you will need one. The case is a great way to keep your tools organized. One complaint, the label is on the bottom half of the case. As with other OEM tools. I would highly recommend this tool for experienced mechanics. I have been repairing diesel trucks and off-road construction equipment for 40 years including installing crusher screen coil springs. I would use this off-road. I first bought this tool to replace the upper and lower control arms on a 1997 2WD GMC 1500. They have heavy old school coil springs and they performed as well as I had hoped. I was impressed with the quality for the price.
