It's a decent tool, but difficult to use.

It would be preferable to have a bolting tool like the 3 valve version. You must carefully maintain tension on the ratchet to remove the yoke, making the whole contraption prone to slipping. It also limits you to using one hand for repairs. All of these factors increase the likelihood of losing your spools. Take precautions as they can easily get into the internal oil drain holes or elsewhere in the chassis.

Quality tool at a great price.

Bought this tool for a complete timing chain replacement on my Ford 5.4 3V engine. This tool perfectly coped with the removal of 24 rocker arms and their subsequent replacement. After hand fitting the tool to the valve spring, I used the open end of a box wrench to slowly turn the top knob to compress the springs. Remember to keep your finger on the rocker arm or spring when squeezing to prevent the valve and retaining ring from separating. Otherwise you risk losing the valve in the cylinder…

New design with flaws

OEMTools has redesigned this tool to make it applicable to "a wider range of vehicles". On the older model, the foot that presses on the valve spring is attached to the instrument with a pin. The new one is in two parts and the foot has to be held in place by hand. This can work normally when the engine is outside the vehicle. However, this cannot be used on a Ford 4.6 2 valve engine while still in the truck. I replaced the OEM 24434 with a brand that still uses the leg pin and it works great…

Works best outside of the car. With the car you need a third-hand assistant.

This device does the job. This works best when the head is off the bench. I used it with an 18" 3/8" breaker. Some valve springs require 3/8 bar to be used on one side of the broach, others on the other side. It's hard to keep the spring compressed and then the retainers work. I recommend a small magnetic sensor to make removing the guard easier. (A magnetized screwdriver will also work). Works "as is" on Ford Expedition/F150 5.4L 2V. The center pin can be knocked out with a punch and replaced…

Keep searching for: Steering & Suspension Tool

If you have helping hands or are an octopus this might work better. But this is NOT an instrument that is easy to use when playing solo. The leg that pushes the valve spring is not fixed on the pivot. That's a terrible design. It either needs to be a one piece piece or a bracket is needed to attach the legs to the main piece. With the foot in the groove I used tape along the beam to attach the foot to it so I could lower the tool into the head and position it on the camshaft and spring. At…

Works as advertised but not worth it

This tool works as advertised. I was able to replace the valve seals without removing the cams, but I think the job would be a lot easier if I removed the cams. This tool is self-interfering. Resetting the retainers into the valve is almost impossible, depending on what valve you are working with. And if you plan to do the work yourself, forget it. You'll need one person to hold the pressure while another compresses the spring, and hopefully you don't destroy the new valve seal in the process…

finicky but reliable: steering and suspension tools

I replaced all the valve seals on my 4.6 (engine off) and it was easy. It wasn't too bad getting used to the two-piece design. It took me 2 valves to get used to it and get used to it. The fact that the tool is tilted and NOT at a 90 degree angle like OTC is a godsend. In fact I ordered OEM and OTC and the OTC got into the top of the camshaft cage and damaged the metal every time I pushed the spring. Well it's a joke! I threw it back in the box and it disappeared. This one didn't hurt anything…

Works perfectly! on Suspension Tools

After reading reviews of other similar products I was concerned that this aftermarket tool would not be strong enough. Well it was definitely strong enough and worked perfectly to replace twelve roller tappets on my 2007 Ford Expedition 5.4L 3V. The positioning of the tool is important, if it is in the right place, the valve spring can be compressed by hand by turning the handle without using a wrench. Some of the cams had to be turned by turning the crank to remove the roller followers. The…

Worked great on a 2009 Ford 5.4L 3V engine

I wanted to buy an OTC tool for this after reading how many others broke this tool while using it. However, there were enough positive reviews and I decided to try and save some money, so I took a chance and chose this tool brand. I'm very glad I did this. After removing and installing roller tappets 30 times (6 removals and 24 reinstallations), you'll know what feels right and what doesn't. First of all, be patient! It's a long process. Make sure the tool is properly seated on the valve spring

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
