Bought this tool for a complete timing chain replacement on my Ford 5.4 3V engine. This tool perfectly coped with the removal of 24 rocker arms and their subsequent replacement. After hand fitting the tool to the valve spring, I used the open end of a box wrench to slowly turn the top knob to compress the springs. Remember to keep your finger on the rocker arm or spring when squeezing to prevent the valve and retaining ring from separating. Otherwise you risk losing the valve in the cylinder and pulling on the head to get it out.
