Review on πŸ”§ Optimized Repair Kit for Peerless RP44123: Ball, Seats, Springs, Cam, Cap, Adjusting Ring, and Bonnet by Mark Toth

Worked but not very well

The parts came in a clear plastic bag that said 'RP44123 Repair Kit' and 'Made in China' with a barcode. At first I thought it was a Delta branded product, but it turns out it wasn't. Seats and springs had slightly different dimensions compared to Delta-branded parts: the springs had an additional 8.15 mm of coil height (compared to 6.31 mm for Delta springs); and the seats had a smaller bore diameter of 5.0mm (compared to 6.0mm for the Delta seats). The extra spring height doesn't seem like much, but the extra compression made it harder to assemble all the parts and unscrew the cap. When reassembled the faucet stopped flowing (small gain) but after a few days the valve started knocking when the water was first turned off. It was annoying, but it didn't break the deal. After another week, however, the extra spring pressure seemed to start making the valve less and less smooth to operate. Even after adding silicone lube to the parts, the job wasn't as smooth as it should have been. So it worked, but at that point I started to think that there would be a new faucet in my future. However, before going down that route, I went to a local big store and bought a genuine Delta brand repair kit (RP77738). This kit was similar to the one proposed here except that it did not have a chrome cap with an adjustment ring. It included seats and springs as well as an RP70 ball, cam and seal piece, as well as instructions not included in the kit offered here. The Delta brand kit had shorter springs and slightly larger bore seats (like the original parts). The Delta kit cam and packing have been slightly modified and no longer require the old adjustment ring. In any case, the parts from Delta's proprietary kit fit together much more easily - it didn't take me three hands to press all the parts together to align the threads for the top cap. And after assembly, the valve worked much more smoothly than with this kit. This kit might be right for you, but if not, try the Delta brand kit before you decide to buy a new faucet.
