Review on Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food - Adult Dog - Beef and Brown Rice Recipe - All Natural, Grain Free Dry Dog Food with Real Ingredients by Sandra Getchu

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Moderate protein content. My great Pyrenees will devour it. The snack food is smaller. Dogs are not picky.

This food contains a moderate amount of protein and is free from soy, wheat and corn which are the main allergens for dogs. My two are littermates and have issues with hot spots and digging. So until it flared up, I'm optimistic about this brand. A little smaller, but she doesn't seem to mind. They are not very picky, although their stomachs are. I haven't noticed an increase or decrease in potty breaks and so far the farm is running smoothly. The ingredients contain grains, but also a lot of meat for my two big omnivores. Overall, this formula contains 26% protein, which is pretty good for most dogs. That's enough to keep two of my farm dogs working. The rest of the ingredients are pretty decent too. The first two ingredients are beef and turkey. No food but beef and turkey. The third ingredient is turkey flour, but flour is considered the best choice as it can contain 100-300% more protein than the meat itself before it is cooked. It has many amino acids for dogs. This formula also contains barley and brown rice, which are easily digested carbohydrates. Less abdominal pain. There are also peas that are high in fiber. Great for dogs but less than ideal for cats. There's even taurine in this formula. Lots of B vitamins and fiber in other ingredients and easily digestible vegetables. The top ten ingredients list chicken fat, which is perfect for omega-6s and longevity for my two. It contains a lot of linoleic acid. There are also chelated minerals for easy ingestion, plus they're more for higher-end dog foods, so there's at least an upside to the higher price point. The result is $2.22 per pound, which is less than the veterinary formula. Flaxseed, lentils, and other grain sources make up some of the protein in this mix, but overall I'm happy with 26% for my two two-year-olds. There's medium to above average protein, moderate amounts of fat and carbs, and apparently it was so good that both of my bags broke before I fed them again. I'm definitely more impressed with the dog food than the cat food and will consider getting it again as long as her coat looks healthy.
