I use it to clean very greasy things like extractor filters and greasy surfaces in the kitchen. It is extremely effective in removing the gunk that builds up on the filter mesh. I just pre-rinse the filter (with cold water so the grease doesn't clog the pipes), then partially fill the sink and finally pour in a teaspoon of this product (rather strong). After a little mixing, I start brushing and it's usually done in less than a minute! For surface cleaning, I mix some of this in a spray bottle and spray it onto the surface to be cleaned. Then I clean/dry it with a paper towel (so I can throw it away and keep it out of the drain). ATTENTION THIS IS A PHOSPHATE DETERGENT! You probably shouldn't be using it for your daily dishwashing as phosphates are really bad for the environment - they cause nasty algal blooms and other eutrophication problems! If you don't want this stuff to be banned for home use, don't use tons of it. Also: If you live in areas where water treatment is marginal or where there are high levels of phosphate in groundwater, you should probably use this material with caution! Update, a few years later: turns out there are some other specific uses that Alconox is great for. . Cleaning the chemistry lab equipment (which I need from time to time when testing the soil in my garden) and cleaning my CPAP/APAP machine. It turns out I suffer from sleep apnea, which is quite unexpected for someone my age, but CPAP therapy brings me many benefits. These machines need frequent cleaning and I can't afford any leftover dirt, scum or other residue. I also can't use anything harsh like bleach and don't want to use solvents like ammonia. This is what Alconox was created for. And that's great. I use very little of it - I still use the same bottle I bought 5 years ago - which means I have to clean and rinse less.
