I don't think this is the best way to teach a child to ride. Unfortunately we waited too long to buy our daughter a balance bike (bicycle without pedals) which I think is the best way to teach her balance. With this pen I had to compensate for my daughter's lack of balance in a way that was awkward and uncomfortable for my daughter and ended up causing the pen to bounce back and forth where it didn't feel solid and I could stop to provide support. We put their training wheels back on and took them off.
