Goodbye Rubbery Drive Train

Probably the best upgrade to get rid of transmission chatter. The 2015 WRX is an inherently good car. One area that needs improvement is the feel of the engine being protected by rubber. Anyone who has ever driven a manual transmission car knows that there are times when a car's transmission can really skip. Whether at low speed in 1st gear or when trying to increase the revs. Some call it flex, sag, slosh or bounce in transmission. Before that I updated the pitch stop with only a small improvement. This time I combined a Group N transmission mount with a previously upgraded Group N pitch lock. They're both parts of a Subaru, but they're completely different. Butt mount with rubber design, I can bend 20-30 degrees with my bare hands. Group N attachment does not bend. The Group N mounting material is probably not the same polymer as some of the suspension bushings. I'd rather compare it to a really durable rubber, and it's double the amount of stock. Installation is easy with ramps or stands and a 1/2 inch socket set. It's best to have a torque wrench, but I've been accused of taking the job "just because" too seriously. For most experienced wrenches, this shouldn't take more than an hour. At the same time, I also installed a set of Whiteline transmission strut bushings (Whiteline KDT901 Transmission Shift Bushing Kit). The results can be felt in a number of ways. You move through the revs, there's a wobble when the boost kicks in, and everything else the engine regulates almost imperceptibly. .Second point is that at low speed and acceleration, the engine noise increases by several notches, at highway speeds it is much less noticeable. Strut Bushings Perhaps remove the Whiteline bushings next spring to see if the noise goes away without degrading the ride. My recommendations are these. Transmission mount first. Pitch stop dog bone second. Then when you switch to a Stage 1 or 2 setup, look at the engine mounts and transmission mount bushings. Group N parts are 2/3 better than some other, more serious parts from Kartboy, Perrin and others unless you want a significant increase in NVH.

Pros
  • Easy Installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
