Review on Superior Sasaki Takumi Japanese AUS-10 8-Inch Chef Knife: Premium Stainless Steel Blade with Locking Sheath, Enhanced Performance in Black by Paula Turner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Amazing workmanship

At first I was skeptical that a paring knife could cost $60 (the price at the time of writing this review). However, after seeing and working with him in person, I was converted. Everything about the knife, from the packaging to the presentation and production, the functionality to the highest quality and craftsmanship. I am attaching a photo of the box and what it looks like right after opening. The attention to detail is wonderful, but what's even more impressive is how this knife feels in your hand. The blade is forged from 67 (!) layers of Japanese Damascus steel, which in combination with a weighted bolster and a strong handle (made of fiberglass) gives the knife a pleasant weight and perfect balance. It felt more durable and easier to use than any paring knife I've owned in my life. What about performance? Perfect. It cuts easily and it's very easy to control the movements of the blade to make the most precise cuts. A hard plastic sheath is included so you can store your knife without worrying about the blade scratching other objects (or your skin!). Takumi kitchen knives are on the list. Or they'll make a decent purchase if you're serious about cooking. Knives would literally be an investment for life. Like any craft knife, it requires maintenance; An instruction booklet is included detailing the best way to sharpen blades. But if you take good care of them, they'll last a lifetime (and the knife comes with a lifetime limited warranty).
