Not easy to do best in interior

I actually just wanted to replace the rubber part that has lock, unlock, panic and trunk buttons. I figured I could just replace the rubber in the original key. Unfortunately disassembling the original key turned into a nightmare and it was badly damaged when I tried to open it. Be warned. The original key may be difficult to open. I ended up using the new key exactly as described and transferring all the internals from the original to the replacement. Luckily all parts worked and my 2012 Mustang responds exactly to the push of a button. Now I have to find a shop where I can shorten the key properly. Since the original body was no longer used, I used a Dremel tool to cut out a Mustang horse and then glued it to the empty space on the replacement body. Looks like a factory key now. Not an easy task, so here it is. Further verification: Lowe's was unable to "cut" the key. Probably because they don't sell "chip" keys. I took the blank key to Ace Hardware and for a whopping ONE dollar the young man cut the blank key to perfection. Now everything works as expected. Thank you Ace Hardware!
