Review on Enhance Your Audio Experience with the ASUS Strix SOAR Sound Card by Jeff Sprunk

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Possibly a bad card, but problematic and unimpressive so far. and Why does a PCIE sound card need a USB driver installed?

Not a very good impression so far. Windows 10 64-bit. I downloaded the latest drivers from Asus. At first I avoided the recommended USB 3.1 driver (Asmedia's USB3.1 driver improves latency) as I didn't see the need. And why does the PCIe sound card need a USB driver update? The audio was muddy and the mic gave strong feedback in dissonance. When connected to 7.1 surround sound, there is no position detection at all. Significantly worse quality than Realtek onboard 7.1. The tone was also hoarse. Alt Tab outside of game to mute the mic in the recording studio to stop the horrible noise it was making in discord and the in game audio was completely gone. Had to reset and restart to get it again. Never had this issue with the built in or my Corsair USB headset when playing my Surface Book 2. The Asus website mentioned installing USB drivers to reduce latency (What can I do if the audio is intermittent with my Strix sound card? the latest Asmedia USB driver to reduce latency). so i tried that and it caused my asus rog strix 1080 to suddenly have ghosting in the game. So secured. Moved the card to another PCIe slot and replaced the power cord (modular power supply) with a new unused one in case something was wrong with the old 6" connector. I still have to be very careful with the recording volume set in the recording studio to avoid feedback, the microphone picks up about 60 percent when I speak. My friends aren't in the competition yet, so I can't test it other than enabling device monitoring in Sonic Studio. Music quality is muddy and lower than onboard Realtech no matter how I set up the recording studio. So far very depressed and disappointed

Pros
  • Hands-free device
Cons
  • Very expensive
